Known for its autonomous taxi service in Arizona, specifically in Phoenix, Waymo has just developed another way to become more convenient with autonomous car enthusiasts.
Waymo was originally a Google project before going on its own wings and becoming a subsidiary of Alphabet in 2016. The start-up began its first self-driving taxi test in 2017 in Phoenix and subsequently launched its robotaxi commercial service named Waymo One on December 5, 2018.

Previously, users could download the application only from a private link they obtained in invitation emails. Now, the app is available on the Play Store, which will make it easier for people to access and register for the program.

What was the situation before?
Before, only users who were part of the program and living in Phoenix could benefit from Waymo One. To participate, interested persons first had to apply online on the company's website. A link to download the application was then sent to them once their application was approved.
In all, the program that the company launched in April 2017 brought together about 400 participants. As for the people grouped in the public service program, Waymo has not provided any precise figures so far.
What steps do you take to be part of testers at Waymo?
Waymo's service is only available in four Arizona cities namely Chandler, Mesa, Tempe and Gilbert. To be able to ride in one of Waymo's autonomous cars, you must be one of the approved testers. The customer must download the application Waymo One on Google Play to be on the waiting list of potential testers.
Approved persons must be part of the program and sign a confidentiality agreement. These guests are not allowed to bring guests to the autonomous car. However, they may request a transfer to the public program which, unlike the first program, is not subject to confidentiality agreements. Those who are part of the public program can take guests to the car, share their experience with them or take photos and videos.
