Through its official account Twitter Support, the social network warns users that they should not be fooled by a hoax that circulates recently on the platform. This joke consists in making people believe that a particular manipulation, namely to change its anniversary date to put 2007 as a birth year, makes it possible to unlock new color themes.
Twitter: blocked account if you are under 13
It is not, and such an operation may block your account. Indeed, the purpose of the joke is to make you pass for a user under 13 years of age with Twitter. However, like Facebook, it is theoretically forbidden to use this service before age 13. It's even more complicated in France and in the European Union since the establishment of the RGPD. In May 2018, Twitter began blocking accounts under 16 who can not consent themselves without the consent of their parents to the exploitation of their personal data.
If you have fallen in the sign or your Twitter account is more generally suspended or locked, you can send a complaint via the Assistance Center, heading Appealing the suspension or locking of an account. You must then describe your problem. If you explain that you've been jailed recently, you should be able to quickly regain access to your account. In some cases, you may need to justify your age by providing a piece of identification.
We’ve noticed a prank trying to get people to change their Twitter birthday in their profile to 2007 to unlock new color schemes. Please don’t do this. You’ll get locked out for being under 13 years old.— Twitter Support (@TwitterSupport) March 26, 2019
