Twitter: soon a button to edit tweets?

Twitter may soon have a button allowing users to edit their tweets. But the social network is still thinking about the best way to give this opportunity to users. This feature should be used to correct a fault or link, but not to change the meaning of a message.

For years, users have been asking Tweeter for a feature to fix their tweets. Almost since the launch of the social network actually. The application is based on instantaneity and spontaneity, hence the original limit of 140 characters (Twitter switched to 280 character tweets in November 2017). But this has a consequence: it is not uncommon to publish a tweet containing an error or a typo. And it is not practical to delete it to resend it, especially if it has already generated answers.

Twitter could help correct his tweets

Jack Dorsey, the creator and CEO of Twitter, looked back at the upcoming opportunity to edit a tweet at The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. He recalled that the goal is not to let users modify the content at their convenience because it could distort the discussions. He explains that he likes the idea of a message change history so that users know if the meaning of a tweet has been changed. According to him, modifying a tweet should only make it possible to better formulate an idea, correct a misspelling or a link, but not the content of the message.

Another solution considered, "we could also imagine a delay of 5 to 30 seconds before sending a tweet. Time period during which it would be possible to correct it, "he said. But nothing is fixed in marble yet. In the meantime, tweets wait, and must be careful before sending a tweet.
