iPhone: Judge Recommends Partial Prohibition of Their Importation into the United States

It's a symbolic victory, but still a new victory for Qualcomm. His conflict with Apple has already led to three convictions: a first in China, a second in Germany where some iPhone had been banned for sale. The latest conviction was handed down in the United States, where the Southern California District Court of California is charging Apple $ 31 million in damages to Qualcomm.

Judge recommends partial ban on iPhone in the United States

After the loss of its lawsuit in the United States, Apple is now faced with the opinion of a judge who recommends the partial ban of the iPhone overseas. "I will recommend that a limited exclusion order (...) be imposed against Apple," said Judge MaryJoan McNamara in a document of the International Trade Commission released on Tuesday, March 26, 2019.

This is a simple opinion and not a court decision as explained by the Reuters news agency. Despite this, Qualcomm stock rose 2.84% on Tuesday, when the Apple stock retreated 1.11%. Qualcomm could also use this recommendation to support its call for outright bans on iPhone imports into the United States.

The iPhone being manufactured abroad, the ban on their imports in the United States would be a big blow to Apple, but is far from such a decision. The US justice has already rejected it on the grounds that it would constitute an obstacle to competition.
