Google Stadia: a connection of 20 to 25 Mbps is enough to play

Google is launching this year on the gaming market. The firm has decided to go by directly betting on cloud gaming, with the ambition to become the Netflix video game. The Google Stadia project is very interesting but doubts remain about the ability of this service to win against the physical consoles. The main obstacle to massive adoption remains the constraint related to the internet connection.

Google Stadia requires a connection of 20 to 25 Mbps to play smoothly

Phil Harrison, vice president and general manager of Google recalled at the GamesBeat Summit 2019. It will not be necessary to have a very high speed connection to play on Google Stadia.

"The highest bandwidth requested by Google Stadia is 30 to 35 megabits per second, for 4K. 20 to 25 megabits will be enough for a lower resolution, so it's not a massive bandwidth we're asking for, "Harrison said. According to him, the countries targeted for the launch of the service are studied so that the majority of the potential users will have no problem to play.

"We study the network very carefully, as you can imagine. In the markets where we will launch Google Stadia in the future, broadband connections are more than enough to satisfy the most ambitious aspects of our proposal. "

Some of the most crucial questions still remain unanswered, including those concerning the ping required to play without a hitch, the price and the launch date of Stadia. Google ensures that the service will be available this year.
