Samsung was all set to be the first manufacturer to launch a foldable smartphone, but the problems faced by the Galaxy Fold are delaying the deadline. This false start leaves many questions unanswered. Are brands and the market in general really ready for the beginnings of this new segment? For Google, the moment is not yet opportune, but the company confirms being working on foldable smartphone.
A Google Pixel foldable is preparation but it is not for now
The information was confirmed in an interview with Mario Queiroz, head of Pixel smartphone development before the Google i / o conference. "We are working on a prototype. We've been doing it for a long time, "said Queiroz, quoted by Cnet. "I do not think there is a clear need at the moment," he added.
Foldable smartphones are suitable for people who want bigger screens, but this will certainly not be enough to stimulate consumer interest. At least, of the majority. "I think this kind of device has to be more innovative than that," he said. Queiroz did not say anything about the design of Google's collapsible smartphone, nor gave any clue about the features envisaged.
What is clear from his statements is that the moment is not yet propitious to launch a Google Pixel foldable. This implies that the device will not come out in the near future. The missed launch of Samsung's Galaxy Fold is no doubt proof that it is still a little too early. It remains to be seen how Huawei is doing with its foldable Mate X, the release of which was confirmed for July 2019.
