Xiaomi MIUI 11: new design, dark theme, the next version of the OS features

With MIUI 11, Xiaomi is preparing major changes to the next version of its Android-based OS. During a Q & A session, two brand managers unveiled new information about the upcoming system version. Xiaomi was not very generous in detail, but her information combined with the leaks allows us to have a more or less precise idea of what MIUI 11 might bring.

 Xiaomi MIUI 11

A few weeks ago, at the MIUI Core Experience conference, Xiaomi announced that MIUI 11 was already in development. The manufacturer promised at the same time a "new and unique OS". We expect a big change in the interface, but not that. Here are some new products from Xiomi MIUI 11 according to the information collected by XDA Developpers.

MIUI 11: a new design

Xiaomi should update the appearance of the icons of his system in MIUI 11. It must be said that the design of the OS has not changed much in recent years, especially since MIUI 6. The manufacturer could offer the possibility to users Customize the shape of the icons according to their preference to get a more consistent appearance with the rest of the interface. Changes are also expected at the level of animations that would be more fluid.

An extreme energy saving mode

Xiaomi is working on an ultra version of the power saving mode in MIUI 11. When enabled, the interface becomes black and white and all applications and OS features are paused, so disabled temporarily except SMS and calls. Samsung has already offered this feature on its Galaxy for several years. It allows in some cases emergency to extend the battery life when the user is not close to a power source.

An improved dark theme

Preview in the beta of MIUI 10, a dark theme should arrive in MIUI 11 in improved version. It would apply not only to the system, but also to the interface of third-party applications. It must be said that the dark theme is one of the novelties that all users can enjoy from Android Q. But MIUI 11 is a proprietary distribution based on Android 9 Pie. That is to say that Xiaomi had gotten involved regardless of the Google calendar.

Optimizations of the status bar

Among the announced changes in the interface, there is also talk of a better organization of the status bar for the display of icons in an optimal manner, especially on models of smartphones Xiaomi having a notch. All circumstantial icons could be prominently displayed in the status bar: headphone connection indicator, silent mode, battery indicator, network signal level, WiFi etc. Xiaomi could also add an option to hide the notch by blackening the entire status bar across the width.

No release date has yet been announced for MIUI 11 but as in previous years, the new version of the OS should arrive in summer 2019, between June and August.
