Stadia? Not afraid: Google's announcement would have boosted Shadow sales by two

Stadia is doing the Shadow business for the moment, according to Blade's CEO in an interview with Slate. He explains that the presentation of Stadia has made it possible to introduce cloud gaming to the general public. For the time being, he points out that Google's offer is not ready, unlike Shadow which still has some time during which Blade will be alone in the market. The company estimates to have a card to play even after the launch of Stadia, cultivating difference brought by Shadow: to Google cloud gaming, Shadow is cloud computing.

Stadia's announcement has made people happy - but it has also thrown a chill on the industry, while now some players may have to compete frontally Google, its infrastructure, its market share and its almost unlimited means. Of course, we can not help but think about Shadow, the first PC in the mainstream consumer cloud - and the atmosphere in the company's premises when they discovered the Stadia offer. Emmanuel Freund, the boss of Blade (who markets Shadow) talks about the Stadia conference and its consequences for his firm in an interview with Slate's Korii blog: "I thought they would rather talk about their exclusivity on some video games or their catalog. I did not expect a presentation in the American style, a real keynote, a firework with the presentation of a lot of features. When I saw that, I thought, damn, they are strong, "remembers Emmanuel Freund.

Stadia does Shadow's business, for the moment

But he adds very quickly that the next day there was "less apprehension": "the feeling quickly metamorphosed. It became: 'Ah, it's cool their thing, but we do not care, it's not the same thing'. We are doing cloud computing. They, cloud gaming. Emmanuel Freund believes indeed that "many users [...] use Shadow to do something other than play". He cites the example of a YouTubeur who uses Shadow to transfer the rushes of his videos, so that his editor can directly mount it in the same Shadow, "without passing through WeTransfer or Dropbox". Nevertheless the firm will continue to communicate primarily on gaming "for a year to a year and a half", the time that "Google arrives", to take advantage of "the highway" and the "surplus of projectors" following the announcement. And to reveal that all this is currently the business of Blade: "The day of the announcement of Google, people have discovered the cloud gaming, we multiplied our sales by two. In the days that followed, we have an increase that varies between 30% and 40%.
