Nearly two months after the arrival of Firefox 65, the version 66 of Firefox makes its great entry in final version with all the users, on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, report our colleagues of Ghacks. As announced by Mozilla last month, Firefox 66 blocks videos and sounds in autoplay.
Firefox 66 blocks autoplay videos: here is the list of news
The web browser will automatically prevent certain sites from running a video in the background without your agreement. Warning, the option is not enabled by default in Firefox settings. To activate it, follow the maneuver below:
-See you in the Options
-Click on Privacy and Security
-In the Permissions section, select the Prevent automatic playback of sound content check box
You can also gradually set up a whitelist and blacklist of websites where autoplay is allowed. For that, just click on Exceptions, on the right, and choose the sites that can continue to automatically launch videos. This novelty is available on both desktop and mobile. For the record, Google Chrome blocks autoplay since version 66
That's not all. Firefox 66 also marks the arrival of the IndexedDB API, a brand new storage format for extensions. This novelty makes it possible to store them locally and thus to improve their efficiency. According to Mozilla, this format also reduces the use of the RAM of the extensions. Moreover, Firefox 66 allows the support of the Touch Bar under mac OS, Windows Hello for Windows 10, and the codec AV1 on Windows. What do you think of this new update? Did you expect the end of autoplay videos? What new features do you expect from future versions of Firefox? We are waiting for your opinion in the comments.
