Nintendo Switch: The 8.0.0 update includes a turbo mode that boosts performance

The Nintendo Switch has received a major update of its firmware with version 8.0.0. This one greatly improves the performances of the first party games like Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild or Super Mario Odyssey by unlocking the potential of the CPU of the console.

In mid-April 2019, the Nintendo Switch received the firmware update 8.0.0. And as reported by T3, the manufacturer and publisher Nippon played secretly by omitting to indicate in the patch notes a very important change made with this update: the console is now equipped with a turbo mode! Its CPU, previously limited to 1 GHZ, can now support up to 1.75 GHz.

Nintendo Switch: Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild And Super Mario Odyssey Are Faster

A huge gain, even if it is currently reserved for games called first party, ie developed directly by Nintendo. According to player feedback, the consequences at stake are very important. On Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild for example, the loading time of a backup goes from 31 to 21 seconds. The fast trip is now 11 seconds, against 19 before. We are on orders of magnitude equivalent on Super Mario Odyssey.

Great news for Switch owners, especially knowing that the most popular titles on the platform are first-party. This performance boost is all the more welcome after weeks of rumors, Bloomberg has announced that a Pro model of the Switch is finally not planned, not immediately anyway. We could however soon have news of a Nintendo Switch Mini, although the Japanese group ensures that it does not intend to unveil new hardware at E3 2019.
