OnePlus sees its future in TVs, Computers and cars

OnePlus has established itself as a leading builder of the smartphone market, but intends to invest other sectors in the future. The brand wants to launch its own connected TV and does not want to miss the turn of home automation. It also wants to be present in the automotive and computer market, but not necessarily as a manufacturer.

OnePlus, it will soon be only smartphones. While the OnePlus 7 should be launched in a few weeks, Pete Lau, CEO and co-founder of the Chinese group, spoke about the future of the brand in an interview at La Repubblica. Television, cars, computers ... OnePlus thinks big for the future.

OnePlus wants to accompany you from the TV in your living room to the Computer in your office

We announced that OnePlus would launch a Smart TV 4K in 2019, the information was not confirmed during this interview. But Pete Lau admitted that his teams are working on a television "able to communicate with the phone without any barrier, thus forming a real ecosystem." He also speaks more "smart screen" than "television", he wants to revolutionize. "When you go home, you have to look for the remote control to turn on the television. It is already a really obsolete system. I imagine a screen always ready and able to meet various needs, "he explains.

For this, he relies on Artificial Intelligence, which "can learn habits and provide what is needed when needed". Pete Lau also talking about "home-grown" efforts, we understand that OnePlus is currently investing in home automation. It remains to be seen what solutions will be proposed to oppose the giants already installed in this market. "It's early to talk about dates," he says sadly.

OnePlus launched a fool's joke on the 1st of this month in teasing the release of a Warp Car electric car with an ultra fast charging, reference to the very effective technology that equips its smartphones. The boss of the group says he does not have the ambition to build a car himself, but that he works on the software aspect of vehicles. It refers in particular to the 5G, which could allow the creation of an intelligent platform that supports the user absolutely everywhere: from his work to his home to the car.

As for Computers, Pete Lau is much more vague. He admits that to accompany users throughout the day, being present in the segment "personal computers is a fundamental element". But he does not specify whether he wants to eventually launch his own range of computers or if as for cars it only considers a software approach on this niche, already invested by major brands in the world of mobile as Huawei.
