MWC 2019: when brands also want to connect dogs and cats

Cars, houses, speakers, televisions, more and more devices of our daily life are connected. And now, brands are investing a new niche: connected objects for animals, especially dogs and cats. Tracker GPS, litter, camera, there is something for all the tastes and all the needs.

The MWC 2019 was particularly interesting this year with the arrival of the first smartphones with foldable screen and 5G compatible. But like PhonAndroid, the mobile show is not just about smartphones, but about technology in general. We also saw a plethora of connected objects in Barcelona this year, with a trend that emerges: devices for animals.

Kippy, Furbo, LavvieBot, connected objects for dogs and cats

As reported by AFP, Vodafone, the second largest operator in the world and well implemented in very large European markets (United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany ...), presented Kippy, a GPS tracker for dogs and cats. Waterproof, it has a battery life of 10 days and requires a SIM card to work. Count 4 to 6 euros subscription per month to keep it active. The price to pay to avoid the stress of losing your companion.

Another popular product to connect his pet, Furbo. This is a camera connected to the WiFi network to watch his dog live from his smartphone. But it's far from everything. You can remotely activate the release of treats for the pet, program the device to send a message when the dog barks or even request a 60-second summary video of the dog's day. We can also mention the automatic litter LavvieBot, which cleans and fills itself. With again the possibility to be warned when the cat uses it.

A way for companies to diversify as the smartphone market comes to saturation and the rate of home automation equipment is growing. "The pet market is an incredibly lucrative segment that is growing year after year," says Ben Wood, an analyst for CCS Insight. And that will not stop. According to Global Market Insight, this industry will generate $ 8 billion in 2024, up from $ 1.85 billion in 2017.
