Remember: In November 2018, we reported to you that the United States was asking its allies to ban Huawei from their 5G network. According to the Times, the CIA also warned intelligence agencies in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom (the Five Eyes) that Huawei received funding from the Communist Party's National Security Commission Chinese, the People's Liberation Army and a "third branch of the Chinese intelligence network".
Huawei funded by Chinese intelligence?
The Times investigation quotes an anonymous source in the UK. This ensures that the details have been shared "only with the highest ranking" and that the CIA gives this information "a high degree of certainty". As a reminder, Huawei has lodged a complaint against the United States, considering that the ban on its products is unconstitutional and that its exclusion from the 5G markets has never been justified by evidence.
Huawei is one of the most advanced players in the field of 5G equipment. Agnès Pannier-Runacher, secretary of state for telecoms, even said in an interview with Le Monde that it would be a shame to do without the technology and equipment of the Chinese group. The latter has warned Europe that without it, countries could fall behind.
If Orange relies on Samsung for its 5G network and preferred to rule out Huawei, Free, SFR and Bouygues Telecom multiply the tests with the equipment manufacturer, and seriously consider relying on it for the deployment of their 5G infrastructure.
