PlayStation Store: trade and resell games soon available?

The PlayStation Store allows you to acquire games in dematerialized mode, but not to resell them, to exchange them or even to give them to other users. A patent suggests that such a feature could happen. For a PS5 without Blu-Ray player that would come out in 2020?

What if Sony revolutionized the operation of its PlayStation Store? A patent filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) suggests that the Japanese group would consider letting players trade and even resell the games they purchased through the PlayStation Store.

Resell and trade games on the PlayStation Store, a dream come true?

Currently, unless you sell their account, players are stuck with the games they do not want and they sometimes paid a high price. This is one of the biggest criticisms made dematerialized: it makes it almost impossible resale, exchange or even the loan of a game once acquired. In fact, players do not own the product and can not do what they want.

Difficult for now to say what it implies. Especially that we can not be sure that such a service finally sees the day. But we can imagine for example that Sony is a PS5 100% based on the dematerialized without a disk drive like the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition without a Blu-Ray player expected in the coming weeks. The announcement of such a feature could calm critics and avoid discontent users.

As a reminder, Sony ends the sale of PS4 download codes at resellers like Gamestop or Micromania from April 1, 2019. Certainly a way to better control the price of titles on its PlayStation Store. But the timing is interesting.
