At the end of February 2019, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Fold, its first collapsible smartphone. His rival Huawei responded with the Mate X, a collapsible smartphone at $ 2299. Other manufacturers will launch the foldable terminal market in the coming months, including Xiaomi, with its Mi Flex folding screen in 3.
Sharp presents a collapsible smartphone way clamshell phone
On April 11, 2019, Sharp decided to enter the arena with a collapsible smartphone prototype presented at an event held in Japan, report our colleagues Engadget. It is sublimated with an AMOLED screen of 6.18 inches resolution WQHD + (1440 x 3040 pixels). Small specificity, it folds vertically inward. The hinge that allows the screen to fold or unfold is therefore located horizontally in the middle of the slab. Other prototypes, unexposed, may bend outward.
Unlike the Mi Flex, Galaxy Fold or Mate X, the smartphone can not convert to a tablet. Once unfolded, it looks like a simple smartphone. Folded, it looks like a modern clamshell smartphone. A priori, the interest of a device of this ilk seems rather limited. It will be remembered that the Japanese manufacturer has already released some smartphones with amazing design. For example, Sharp has released the first smartphone with 2 notches.
According to Sharp, the smartphone screen can survive 300,000 folds and unfoldings (against 200,000 times for the Galaxy Fold for example). For the moment, the firm has not mentioned a marketing date for the smartphone. In the coming years, some AQUOS devices will benefit from this foldable OLED panel, says Engadget. What do you think of this foldable smartphone? Could you crack for this modern flip phone?
