Netflix has just released its financial results for the first quarter of 2019. During this period, the streaming leader has gained 9.6 million new customers worldwide. In total, the service represents up to 148.9 million paying subscribers. With its success, Netflix is not afraid of the arrival of Disney + or Apple TV + on the VOD market.

In the first quarter of 2019, Netflix attracted 9.6 million additional subscribers worldwide, the Los Gatos company said in a statement. This is well above the forecasts of analysts, which instead expected a gain of 8.94 million customers. The firm is less optimistic for the current quarter, impacted by rising prices for Netflix subscriptions in the United States. Netflix expects only 5 million more subscribers, which is below expectations (6.9 million).
Netflix now has 149 million subscribers worldwide, a record!
Subsequently, Netflix evokes the arrival of Disney + and Apple TV + on the streaming market. Unsurprisingly, the leader of the VOD does not fear the emergence of competition. "We do not think these new entrants will have a significant impact on our growth," says the group. "We believe we will all continue to grow as we invest more in content and improve our service," says Netflix. For the firm, there is enough room for everyone on the VOD market as consumers draw a line on traditional television.
"We think there is a strong demand to watch quality shows and movies and that Netflix is only a small part of that demand," says the company. In a previous note to investors, Netflix already stated that Fortnite is a more serious competitor than HBO. Finally, the firm believes that the Netflix catalog is very different from the content that will be offered by Disney + and Apple TV +. As a reminder, both services will arrive during the end of the year.
In the first quarter of 2019, Netflix reported revenue of $ 4.5 billion, up 22.2% over the first three months of 2018. The company reports net profit of $ 344 million dollars (76 cents per share). What do you think about Netflix assertions? Is the VOD market large enough for Apple, Disney and Netflix?
