The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is behind many innovative and useful technologies such as Unix, GPS, Tor, etc. The agency usually works on the techniques required by or can help the US military in any way. But sometimes, DARPA also offers some advanced techniques for ordinary people as well.
According to a briefing document prepared by Dr. Joshua Barron, DARPA is working on an anonymous, interoperable and end-to-end mobile communications system. This system, called RACE, can reside fully within a crowded network environment.
DARPA plans to integrate RACE into Android apps for messaging and system applications. Apart from this, DARPA will explore the possibilities in which RACE can be used to deal with DoS attacks.
After development, the RACE prototype will be tested between 1000 users and 1000 servers. According to DARPA, the outgoing client to the server connection will have a bandwidth of 500 kbps, while the server connection to the server can reach 10 Mbps.
If you are confused about what this technique will be used, RACE will be useful for anonymous message service, anonymous encrypted currency transactions, etc.
If you look at them closely, you can say that DARPA is trying to build something like Tor again, and the latter is difficult to detect even when using real-time precision analysis. If the government and other companies succeed in making the technology live, it will be a major step toward protecting the privacy of millions of users.
When talking about a recent report, DARPA is also working on a $ 10 million open source content voting system. The agency participated in the Galois, Oregon Cyber Security Company to develop this system and make the voting process immune to penetration routes. The two companies will also publish the source code on the Internet and conduct several prototype testing sessions in 2019 Def Con Voting this year.
What is RACE?
RACE will use cryptography and cryptography to build an anonymous, attack-resistant mobile communications system. RACE will rely on cryptographic and protocol technologies to avoid targeting.
