iPad: a child, ten little fingers, and the iPad is locked for 48 years!

A 3-year-old boy blocked his parents' iPad for 48 years ... The kid triggered the blocking system by repeatedly trying combinations that did not match the unlock code on the device. We must now wait 25 million minutes and dust to have the opportunity to enter the correct code ...

Evan Osnos, a journalist with the American daily "New Yorker" was the victim of a strange mishap. By taking his iPad from the hands of his offspring of 3 years, he finds himself stuck on the lock screen for a long, very long term of 48 years. In a photo he posted on social networks, we can see a countdown that indicates the number of minutes to wait until the new attempt: 25,536,442 minutes exactly.

iPad: still a bug case for the iOS unlock system

A small conversion exercise gives us an equivalent of 17,773 days, 48 years, 6 months and a few days. Such a delay can obviously come only from a bug. This is not the first time this has happened. The phenomenon that is well known to Apple is due to a disruption of the clock that can occur, for example, when the battery is very low.

The internal clock is then reset to 1970. While it normally takes 1 minute, 5 minutes and then an hour between attempts, the system displays an endless delay. From 1970 to 2019, we count well a duration of more than 48 years.

To solve the problem, there is only one solution: reset the device. This will inevitably result in the loss of all the data stored there. The user can however reset them, provided of course to make regular backups on iCloud.
