Why you don't know the exact address of your home through an IP address?

When we connect to the Internet, our operator assigns our IP address. This address contains a lot of information about us, and anyone can find out what we download online. However, using this address, we and anyone can determine our location, or at least your home or router location. Why?

Why you don't know the exact address of your home through an IP address

Knowing the IP address gives us a lot of information about the other person, or the ability to know his or her country or even the city where they are located. However, it is practically impossible to obtain more accurate information than that, which usually has a margin of error tens of kilometers within the same city, or determine our location in a city. In my case

There are free and paid online services that allow you to locate your IP address more or less accurately, but you can never know your exact location, even if you use paid software. This is because these geolocation services through IP addresses work with different databases.
Thanks to these databases, they take many eight IP addresses and know exactly where they are located. If an IP address belongs to the same group of others already in the database, the address we entered is the same, or at least in a very close area.

To manage IP addresses for a region, there is a so-called regional Internet registry that is RIR. There are five different species in the world, we can see it in the map below. For example, although I am Moroccan, I live in Spain and therefore I belong to the European Register, called the RIPE NCC, or the regional Internet Register for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia. This is the first official RIR, but it is not IP that creates IP addresses. The IPA allocates IP addresses to regional Internet registries, which are then distributed to operators, governments, large corporations, educational institutions, etc.

Through this log, they can learn more or less which country each IP address is given. However, this is only the beginning, as they use other complementary databases. For example, pages that locate IP addresses can access weather web pages to see the city you've consulted on this website with your IP address, allowing them to link to a city. Operators can also provide certain information. Some services provide a large amount of data in addition to the country or city, such as postal code, time zone, connection speed, contact company used, etc.

Although this information can be used to learn more about a person and his location, he has positive purposes, such as banks, to avoid phishing or other web services that prevent access to your account if they suddenly see someone from a country thousands of kilometers away To your account.

However, there is someone who can know where an IP address belongs to the police or telecommunications company. This is why if a crime is committed on the Internet and the IP address is not hidden through methods such as Tor or VPN, the police can ask for information about their owner from the telecommunications company, which is available at the real IP address of your home, To conduct the arrest.
