Samsung responds to Huawei: "we will remain number 1 for another 10 years"

Samsung does not intend to leave Huawei its leading position in the smartphone market before a long time. DJ Koh assures that the South Korean manufacturer has enough to see coming and announces even a new domination of ten years. Visionary or presumptuous?

Richard Yu said a few days ago that Huawei would sell more smartphones than Samsung in 2020. The CEO of the Chinese group has no doubt that it will become number 1 in the market after years to catch up with its competitor south Korean. But DJ Koh, Samsung CEO and President of Samsung Mobile, has a much different view of the situation. "Samsung has been a leader in the smartphone market for 10 years and will remain so for the next 10 years by continuing to innovate and imagine new mobile experiences"

Samsung does not abdicate against Huawei

When he talks about new mobile experiences, he is of course referring to 5G and foldable smartphones. Problem, not sure that its advances in the field can consolidate its place number 1 since its direct prosecutor has also invested mass on its technologies. The Huawei Mate X will be released in June 2019 and will put sticks in the wheels of Galaxy Fold for example. We took over the Huawei Mate X, and it seemed to us at first sight more successful than the product of Samsung.

"I see a huge potential for the segment of foldable smartphones," says the leader of Samsung French daily. "Consumers are looking for larger screens without sacrificing portability [...] Samsung has taken into account the evolution of these needs and has radically changed the game with this new smartphone format and the unprecedented mobile experience that results [... ] We are writing the next chapter of the mobile industry. We have created the Galaxy Fold to directly change the way consumers use their phones: everywhere and for everything, "he enthuses, before rejecting the criticisms of crease marks on the Galaxy Fold screen.

DJ Koh also discusses the arrival of compatible 5G smartphones in France. "We are working closely with French operators to make the Galaxy S10 5G available for network testing this summer," he says without further details.
