Facebook has stored millions of Instagram passwords in clear

A month ago, KrebsOnSecurity revealed that Facebook has stored "hundreds of millions of Facebook passwords" and "tens of thousands of Instagram passwords" on its servers for years to come. The social network quickly confirmed this in a news release that has just been updated. Finally, there are "millions" of Instagram passwords that have been stored in the clear, which significantly worsens the case. "We will alert these users as we did to others. Our investigation has determined that these stored passwords have not been compromised or misused, "says Facebook.

What does this entail

Clearly storing the passwords of millions of users is a shame, especially for a technology company like Facebook. Impacted users have an interest in updating their password and activating dual authentication as quickly as possible.

The context

Yesterday it was learned that Facebook had imported the contacts of 1.5 million users without their authorization in 2016, "unintentionally". And a few weeks ago, we discovered hundreds of millions of free Facebook user data on the web. More than a week goes by without anyone having to deal with a problem of security or protection of personal data on Facebook. This gives the impression of a drunk boat where no one really knows what's going on.
