The AirPower will never see the light of day. After months of silence, Apple announced the cancellation of its 3-in-1 wireless charging pad. The manufacturer would have encountered material difficulties in the design of the accessory.
After a notable appearance on the back of the AirPods 2 boxes, on the Apple site with an iPhone XS and in the code of the latest iOS beta, many fans of the brand still believed in the release imminent AirPower. Introduced at the keynote of September 2017, the induction charging mat will never be marketed, said Dan Riccio, head of hardware engineering at Apple, our colleagues at TechCrunch.
"After many efforts, we concluded that the AirPower will not meet our high standards, so we canceled the project. We apologize to those consumers waiting for the launch. We continue to think that the future is wireless and we will always work in this direction "explains the manager.
According to TechCrunch, Apple has simply failed to solve a major technical problem. The presence of many entangled coils, allowing the charge of an Apple Watch, a box of AirPods and an iPhone generates too much heat. This loss of energy could even damage the devices placed on the base. This construction would have allowed to put a device anywhere on the base to recharge it.

Many third-party accessory manufacturers have been inspired by the design of the AirPower. On Amazon, Aliexpress or Ebay, there are many similar bases. These are usually limited to loading an Apple Watch and an iPhone simultaneously. In a slightly different style, Belkin offers the BoostUp Wireless, a charging base consisting of a 7.5W fast wireless charger for the iPhone, and a 5W charger for the Apple Watch. Do you regret canceling the AirPower?
