You may have noticed a bunch of tweets and posters on Facebook talking about the possibility of an internet outage today (October 11th) from the world. In order to take a closer look at what will happen after many newspapers and websites have spoken about this, we have posted this entry to understand the rationale for this action by ICANN.
ICANN is known as the organization responsible for Internet domain names and is responsible for distributing and managing IP addresses and domain names and assigning top-level domain names (eg .com, .info, etc.) worldwide, and has the function of managing key resources for network infrastructure such as Root computers.
ICANN announced that for the first time KSK key encryption keys will be changed on this day (Thursday, October 11). These keys are responsible for protecting the Internet domain name system, with this system allowing people to access the Internet.
As experts have said it may lead to several errors that make it impossible to locate web pages. Therefore, an information guide has been launched with the technical support needed to understand in detail what will happen during this process.
According to the guide, some users may be affected by this change, as some users will encounter "server failure" problems and error messages, starting with October 11 or starting after approximately 48 hours.
While those users "who rely on a parser that does not check DNSSEC" or "who rely on parser containing the new KSK" will see no change.
This update was due to be implemented last year but was postponed to ensure that the impact of the change was limited. This in turn allowed additional time for entities around the world to make sure that their systems, which fall under the responsibility of IT departments and information security, are updated.
