Since Disk Operating System (DOS) days, the BIOS was present (even before DOS was created by Microsoft which we know well). Although you do not see BIOS frequently, it is very important that your computer works correctly.

What exactly is the BIOS?
The BIOS is a static program, in short. The chip is stored on a portion of the computer's motherboard and is basically a set of instructions that work to help load the operating system. You will fail to load the operating system, if there is no BIOS in your system!

You can see BIOS instructions every time you turn on your computer. There are these instructions in order to check if there are any errors in the processor or RAM of your computer before booting the system.

 Some BIOS functions:

Checks every part of RAM to make sure that everything works fine.
Once you check the RAM and processor, it checks all other devices connected to the computer such as the keyboard and mouse.
After that, the BIOS checks boot options or boot.
Different boot options are organized sequentially in order of priority. You can actually take a look at this by going to BZO during boot. Options look like: boot from CD, take off from USB, etc.
It then checks for bootstraps on different devices in the specified order.
Once all of the above conditions are completed, it passes the control to the operating system by loading the main parts of the operating system into the RAM portion that is reserved for the operating system.
